Fix: "video can't be downloaded" — 6 common causes

A failed download is frustrating, but it's rarely a sign the tool itself is broken — the vast majority of failures trace back to one of a handful of predictable causes. Here's what to check, roughly in order of how often each one turns out to be the actual problem.

1. The content is private

By far the most common cause. If an account or a specific post is set to private, no downloader — this one or any other — can reach it, because the source platform itself doesn't serve that content publicly. Check whether you can view the post while logged out of the platform entirely; if you can't, that's your answer.

2. The video has been deleted or removed

If a link worked yesterday and fails today, the creator may have deleted the post, or the platform may have removed it for a policy violation. There's nothing to recover in this case — once the source is gone, no tool can fetch a copy that no longer exists anywhere.

3. You copied the wrong kind of link

A link to someone's profile, a search results page, or a comment thread isn't the same as a link to the specific video or post — and most downloaders, including this one, need the direct post link to work. Open the video itself, use its own Share button, and copy from there rather than the address bar of a broader page.

4. The content is age-restricted or requires login to view

Some YouTube videos, and certain Instagram or Facebook content, are gated behind an age check or a login requirement even when the poster considers them public-facing. Since the download tool can't log in on your behalf, anything gated this way can't be processed.

5. The link is region-locked

A small share of content — particularly on Douyin, and occasionally elsewhere — is restricted to specific countries and isn't accessible from outside that region through any method, downloader included. If one specific link consistently fails while others from the same platform work fine, this is a likely explanation.

6. Temporary server load

Occasionally a download fails simply because of momentary high traffic on the processing side, especially right after a video goes viral and everyone is trying to save it at once. Waiting a minute and trying the exact same link again resolves this more often than any other fix on this list.
