Vimeo downloader: save videos in HD

Vimeo doesn't offer a download button on most videos, even when the creator would be fine with someone keeping a copy. Step 1: Copy the video link

On the video's Vimeo page, copy the URL from your browser's address bar, or use the Share button on the video and copy the link from there. Both the standard vimeo.com/12345678 format and links to unlisted videos (which include an extra code after the number) work here.

What kind of Vimeo videos work

• Public videos, playable without logging into Vimeo.
• Unlisted videos, as long as you have the full link including its access code.
• Videos embedded from a Vimeo Showcase or channel page — copy the direct video link, not the showcase page URL.

Why some Vimeo videos can't be downloaded

Password-protected videos, and videos the uploader has restricted to domain-embedding only, can't be fetched this way — Vimeo itself blocks access to the underlying file for those cases, the same restriction that stops any download method. A small number of videos are also only available in adaptive streaming format, without a direct downloadable file at all; those return a clear error rather than a broken result.

Copyright and fair use

Vimeo hosts a lot of independent film, animation and creative work where the creator's rights matter more than average — many Vimeo uploaders are professional filmmakers and studios. Save videos for personal viewing or reference, and if you want to reuse or repost someone's work, reach out to them directly; Vimeo profiles usually make that easy since most creators list contact details.
